Welcome to the Jungle

While back in TO I got to capture my sister's cat in her natural habitat. Sleeping on a blanket, atop the hot tub in the plant-filled solarium. Thought I'd try and capture some jungle-esk photos to give Mish the panther like look.

PanoRama

Taking more inspiration from this digital photography book, I decided to take a couple panoramic pictures with the intention of photo stitching them to create a large scale photo that resembles a single wide angle lens shot. Though there were many failed attempts, through experimentation I did have a few successes. This is one of the few I enjoyed. It has been scaled down quite a bit, but I hope it maintains its effect.

Satel-lines

I've been way behind on posting new photos. Turns out this PhD stuff is more time consuming than originally envisioned. I have a back log of edited photos to post from many months ago, and I finally dedicated today to getting them posted. This set is from late August. I  passed these satellite dishes driving Shauna to and from work during the 'golden hours' of the day on numerous occasions and finally stopped to take a few photos. I have been reading this book on compositional designs and the chapter I was currently reading was about lines in photos. So here is my attempt to capture the lines of the satellites and its surrounding environment.

Oh Dear

While in Banff I got to TMZ the crap out of this family of dear venturing down our street. They were well acclimated to humans, allowing us to get pretty close without spooking them. I've been shooting a lot of photos with the sephia filter lately, enjoying the "old time" feel it produces. I really enjoy these pictures with this filter. I wish I would have got the whole dear body in for the last picture, but I was too excited about the photo shoot that I didn't notice the compositional error when displacing the shutter. Another time I guess.

Pearson Airport

While waiting for my flight back to Saskatoon I happened upon some men playing cards at Pearson airport. I've been diligently trying to refrain from "chimping" after my pictures, so I didn't realize I had the sephia filter on while snagging these shots. I actually think the sephia looks good with these shots, but really wish they were in true colour. Maybe "chimping" does have its benefits.

Waterfront

I recently attended a conference at Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario and was lucky to get a away during the conference and enjoy some of the waterfront near our hotel. I was intrigued by the playfulness of the seagulls flying around and surprised at how close you could actually get to them. I bet if I had some food on hand, I could have pet them. Here's a view of some of shots I took while at the conference. I have a whole lot more, but need more time to dedicate to editing. I doubt that will be happening anytime soon. But here is a taste. 

Around the University

I was in desperate need of a break from data transposing and required a task that was both relaxing and fun, but still stimulating as well (you can only watch so many episodes of Top Gear to step away from school). Lucky for me I brought my camera to school and so I decided to take a venture around the pasture called the University of Saskatchewan. One of my favorite spots on campus is the cow pen. There is something about cows that's intimidating and wonderful at the same time. The cows were in a great mood, bustling around like children in a day care. I even happened on one that smiled for the camera. Although I didn't take too many pictures, it was a good change of pace and made me realize I should do this more often.
